Death Calls Mrs. Peek
Dies at her Home Christmas Day About Five P.M.
Pioneer Resident of O'Brien County
Rest Comes after Long Illness -- Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon First Presbyterian Church

Last Saturday, on Christmas Day, death relieved Mrs. C. G. Peek from the physical suffering that she has endured for several months. The end came peacefully and quietly without attendant pain at about five o'clock in the afternoon. At the time of death she was surrounded by the members of her immediate family, the ones of this earth whom she loved so dearly and for whom she had labored so zealously throughout the years of her motherhood.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church. Rev. H.F. Williams officiating. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Peek marks the passing of one of the old settlers of this community, she having moved to O'Brien county with her husband in 1883. In all this time she has had much to do with the social and spiritual life of the community. She was a woman of strong mental and spiritual qualities. At all times she was a zealous and devoted mother and wife. The virtues of her life are stamped indelibly upon her children who live to mourn the passing of a real mother. Among her neighbors and friends she enjoyed the highest respect as she was a pleasant companion and always proved a friend in the time of need. Her death is a matter of deep concern and sorrow with all who enjoyed her acquaintance.

Amanda Ann Hatch was born in Bath township, Summit county, Ohio, December 28, 1857, the oldest of nine children, six of whom with their aged father are living.

She moved with her parents to Lafayette county, Wisconsin in 1862, the journey was made with team and wagon. When she was 13 years of age, they moved to Benton county, Iowa, where she lived until she was married to Chester G. Peek in 1881.

Two years later she with her husband moved to O'Brien county, Iowa, onto the farm where they lived for 36 years. Moving to Paullina last spring. Had Mrs. Peek lived until December 28, she would have been 63 years old.

To Mr. and Mrs. Peek were born six children, Delpha Algyer, of Tracy, Minn., Welton Peek and Jean Cowan of Paullina; Ruth Corrie of Ida Grove; Adaline Joy, of Logan; and Alice Hopkins of Indianapolis, Ind. These with her husband and five grand children survive her.

In her early girlhood she was united with the Baptist church, later joining the Presbyterian church of Paullina where she was a faithful and an active member. She was affiliated with the various organizations of the church: The Ladies Aid Society, The Woman's Missionary society and the Sabbath school.

Mrs. Peek was a Daughter of the American Revolution, as her great grandfather Eben Welton served in the Revolutionary War.
