Mrs. H.F. Kluender, nee Richter, was born Dec. 3, 1856 in Cook county, Ill. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member of the same throughout her life.

In 1880 she came to O'Brien county, Iowa and was therefore one of the early settlers of this community. April 10, 1882, she entered holy wedlock with Mr. H.F. Kluender, her surviving husband. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Kluender moved onto a farm near Germantown and made that their home until 1916, when Mrs. Kluender's health began to fail. Their intentions were to spend their remaining days in Germantwon, where they had erected a comfortable and modern home. Rest did not bring the desired change in her physical condition and medical care was unable to restore her health. Since 1922 she constantly used a roll chair. During her last years, she was completely helpless and entirely dependent upon others.

In June 1927, Mrs. Kluender went to Littleton, Colo. staying there with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Fred Fiddelke. Upon her return to Germantown in 1928, she made her home with another daughter, Mrs. Ernest Stoeckmann.

Slowly but steadily her condition grew worse. Her eyesight failed and she was barely able to talk. A year ago Sunday she had several fainting spells but recuperated enough to be in her chair again. Since Thursday, she was unable to rise from her bed. Saturday, she passed away cheerfully, having attained an age of 76 years, 3 months and 8 days.

Mrs. Kluender was the mother of six children, one of which died in infancy. The surviving children are Mr. Albert Kluender of Paullina; Mrs. Christoph Schulz of Missouri, Mrs. Ernest Stoeckmann of Germantown, Mrs. Henry Hattermann of Cherokee, and Mrs. Fred Fiddelke of Littleton, Colo. These together with the bereaved husband, 19 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 brothers and two sisters are mourning at her bier.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kluender held in Ev. Luth St. John's church in Germantown, were in charge of the local pastor. Her remains were laid to rest on Ev Luth. St. John's cemetery.
