17 Yr Old Robert Jalas Found
Dead of Gun Wound Wednesday

Robert Jalas, the 17 year old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jalas
was found dead from a bullet
wound Wednesday morning
about 8:15 at the Jalas farm
home five miles southeast of
Sutherland.

O'Brien County Sheriff Howard
Tiemens and Dr. A. D. Smith,
assistant medical examiner for
the county, investigated the
death. The sheriff's office reported
the tragedy as a self-inflicted
head wound from a 22-
caliber rifle.

Robert, who had attended
Sutherland High School until
late last fall, had been living at
home. The events of the morning
are reported about as follows.
About 7:30 Robert had arisen
and gone down stairs. Later,
upon the return of a young brother,
Richard, from the farm of
his grandmother, Mrs. Anna
Jalas, where he had gone to do
chores, the father inquired as to
the whereabouts of Robert. His
mother recalled having heard a
noise in the basement earlier.
The father went to the basement
and there discovered the lifeless
body of his son. The time of the
death was thought to have been
about 8:00 o'clock a.m.

In addition to his parents and
brother, Richard, the deceased is
survived by four sisters, Loretta,
Beverly, Donna and Vicki.
