Services held for Emma R. Meyer

Funeral services for Emma R. Meyer were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13,1988, at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa. Rev. Gregory Bock officiating. The pallbearers were Olaf Hesse, Luane Wiese, Harlan Will, Francis Carlson, Russell Steinbeck and Henry Hansen. The final resting place is Liberty Township Cemetery at Calumet, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

The daughter of Fritz Thoms and Elise nee Friedrichsen, was born May 29, 1899, on a farm near Larrabee, Iowa. She received her education in this area, in a rural county school.

Emma worked as a "hired girl" in various farm homes until February 6, 1924, when she was united in marriage to Fritz H. Meyer at Cherokee, Iowa. After their marriage,,the couple settled on a farm southeast of Paullina, where they farmed until moving into Paullina in 1944. Emma enjoyed gardening, crafts, and making up writings for weddings, anniversaries, etc. She loved to play the accordion and throughout the years, did so for numerous functions.

She and her husband, Fritz, remained in the family home until August 6, when she suffered a stroke and was admitted to the Baum-Harmon Hospital; and was transferred to the Wide View Nursing Home on August 28. She was re-admitted to the Primghar Hospital September 9 and passed away the following evening.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Herbert Stuegelmeier of Paullina; two granddaughters and their husbands, Lesa and Joe Ocker of St. Paul, Minnesota and Lynnette and Leroy Hedinger of Gaza, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz (1 week ago); 3 sisters, Adela, Rosa and Elizabeth; and 1 brother, Willie.
