OBITUARY

Alma Helen Smith, the daughter of Adolph and Anna Schneckloth Johannsen, was born November 18, 1892, at Garwin, Iowa. She came to O'Brien County at an early age and attended rural schools near Sutherland.

She was united in marriage to Warren Brookfield at Sutherland on June 5, 1912. He passed away on August 13, 1939.

She was united in marriage to Oliver Smith at Sutherland on September 15, 1946. He passed away on April 4, 1961.

She was a life-time resident of the Sutherland area. She was a home-maker and a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Senior Citizens and an Honorary Life-time Member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She passed away at the hospital in Primghar, Iowa, on September 5, 1988, at the age of 95.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, one daughter, Dorothy Brookfield, one son and his wife, Beryl and Arlene Brookfield, six brothers and three sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are three grandchildren and their spouses, Dick and Marlene Brookfield of Sutherland, Lorin and Ragean Brookfield of Paullina, and Jean and Larry Dau of Sutherland; seven great grandchildren, Dawn (Mrs. Jim) Jensen, Nicole, Steven and Todd Brookfield, Amy, Arica and Andrew Dau, two great great granddaughters, Jessica and Lindsay Jensen; one step-daughter, Lorna, (Mrs. Gerald) Pieres of Sun City, Arizona; four step-grandchildren, Mariann, Jerry, Cinda and Patrick; five step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
