Funeral Services held Monday for William Proehl

Funeral services for William Proehl, 66, former Paullina and Germantown resident were held Monday afternoon at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery, Paullina, and the Rev. Fred A. Elze officiated.

Mr. Proehl, who had lived in Sutherland since 1946, died at his home Thursday. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Christoph Otto Wilhelm Proehl, the son of Dietrich and Sophie Siemengluess Proehl was born at Oberhode in Hanover, Germany on Nov 27, 1889, and came with his parents to this country to
O'Brien county in early childhood. He attended the parochial school at Germantown and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran church at Germantown by Pastor Oscar Horn on April 5, 1903.

He was married to Hulda Westphal Oct 12, 1913, and ten children were born to the couple, two of whom died in infancy. They lived on farms in the Paullina and Germantown vicinity throughout their married life. She died March 6, 1931 and he continued farming until 1949.

On Dec 15, 1949, he was married to Mrs. Ella Haas, and they made their home in Sutherland.

Preceding him were his first wife, two children, Violet and Marlin, three brothers, one sister and his parents.

Survivors are his wife Ella, eight children, Mrs. Herman (Berniece) Speck, Clarence Proehl, Mrs. Luverne (June) Richter and Mrs. Densel (Ruth) Durst, all of Hartley, Glen Proehl of Archer, Mrs. Vernon (Irena) Meyer of Sutherland, William Proehl of Primghar and Mrs Robert (Lois) Rorhbaugh of Paullina; 32 grandhilcren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Meyer of Lake Park, Mrs. August Jalas, Sr., of Sutherland and Mrs. Clara Westphal of Primghar; two stepchildren, Mrs. Clarnece Jungjohann and Harold Hass of Sutherland and five step grandhildren.
