Larry Hinken, age 73, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Sheldon Senior Care. Funeral Services will be Monday, February 4, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Graveside Service at 1:15 P.M. on Monday at Remsen Community Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa.

Larry Lee Hinken was born on September 27, 1939 in LeMars, Iowa. He was the son of Benjamin Curtis and Mary Jeannette (Hammond) Hinken. He lived his youth in LeMars where he attended school.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Guttner. They lived in LeMars where the oldest daughter, Kim was born, then Sheldon, Iowa where the middle daughter, Pam was born, then Fort Carson, Colorado where the youngest daughter, Beverly was born. They moved back to Sheldon, Iowa where Larry resided the rest of his life. Mary Ellen passed away on September 7, 1985. He was united in marriage to Agnes Koerselman on October 24, 1987.

Larry served in the National Guard for 27 years, where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was honorably discharged on April 25, 1984. Larry worked for the Sheldon Post Office for 21 years. In 2009, Larry had a stroke and then resided at the Sheldon Sanford Senior Care. He enjoyed putting puzzles together, sharing candy with all the aides and nurses and the many visits from his family. After fighting a short battle of cancer our beloved dad was taken from us to live his life in a better place. He will be loved and missed dearly by his daughters and family.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Agnes Hinken of George, IA; his daughters: Kim (Charles) Lambirth of Sanborn, IA, Pam (Robert) Greathouse of Sheldon, IA and Bev Hinken; step children: Arlene Walgenbach of Hospers, IA, Harvey (Sharon) Koerselman of Sheldon, IA, Jolene (Dave) Kamies of Sheldon, IA, Gary Koerselman of Sheldon, IA, Donna (Duane) Delp of Grand Junction, IA; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Ben (Dora) C. Hinken of Bristol, RI, Richard "Dick" Hinken of LeMars, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Hinken; his parents; one brother: Edward Hinken; four sisters: Bonita "Bonnie" Baack, Dorothy Miller, Anna Longtin, and Marion Titus
