Lyman Hill Rites Held Thursday. Long time resident passed away on Saturday following lengthy illness.
Death Saturday morning brought to a close the life of another of Sutherland's longtime residents, when Lyman Edwin Hill passed away at his home following a long illness. Mr. Hill who was 86 years old, has been a resident of this community for more than half a century.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Christian Church with Rev. Wm. H. Knotts in charge, under the direction of the Baumgarten Funeral Home. Mrs. Silas Steele and Miss Myrne Innes with piano accompniement by Mrs. Otis Hulser, sang "Rock of Ages" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".
Pallbearers were Merrill Hill, Roy Hill, Clarence Hill, Myron Hill Jr. of Peterson, Fred Zwick and Verne Zwick. Interment was in Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland Iowa.
Lyman Edwin Hill was born September 3, 1858 in Macedon, Wayne County, New York, the son of Willis and Adeline Hill. Thirty years of his life were spent in Hudson, Michigan, after which time he moved to Sutherland where he has since made his home.
In 1879 he was united in marriage to Lillian Chapman at Hillsdale, Michigan. To this union were born 10 children. His wife and four of their children preceded him in death.
Lyman Hill was a member of the Baptist Church and later the Christian Church of Sutherland. He was also an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Rebeccas. He was a farmer by occupation, but since 1925 has not been able to work. However, he has continued to live in Sutherland despite failing health, and since December of last year has been critically ill. He passed away at his home here on June 2, 1945 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 29 days.
He leaves to mourn is passing six children: Clyde J. Hill of Detroit, Michigan, Frank E Hill of Chicago, Ill, Floyd L. Hill of Detroit, Michigan, Harry H Hill of Sutherland, Mrs. Ben Olson of Brookings, South Dakota and Mrs Charles Hyde of Peterson, Iowa; 32 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, one brother Myron E Hill Sr Long Beach, California; two sisters Mrs. Mattie Olhausen and Mrs. Lottie Jenkins, as well as many friends and neighbors.
