Peter Zahren, a resident of Everly and vicinity for eighteen years, died at the home of his sons, Harry and Gilbert Zahren, at Lake Park, Iowa, Saturday, June 23, 1928, following an illness of six months. His death was caused from cancer of the stomach. He was 76 years and 12 days of age.
Mr. Zahren was born June 11, 1853, at Main Schleswig, Holstein. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a child and continued In that faith until his death.
He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Weber March 7, 1883. Mrs. Zahren preceded him in death May 7, 1923. To their union eight children were born, seven of whom survive him, namely: Mrs. Clifford Garlick of Manchester, Mrs. Floyd Hakeman of White, South Dakota, Amiel Zahren of Everly, Julius Zahren of Manchester, Iowa, Edward Zahren of Milford, and Harry and Gilbert Zahren of Lake Park. Ten grandchildren and a host of friends also survive him.
In 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Zahren emigrated to this country and settled in New Jersey where they resided three years, moving from there to Lost Nation, Iowa, where they made their home for sixteen years, later residing in Linn county for ten years. For the past eighteen years they had lived in the vicinities of Everly, Hartley and Lake Park.
Mr. Zahren was an honest, conscientious worker, always ambitious and anxious to please and accomplish those things he set out to do and because of his devotion to the home his place cannot be filled.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at Everly. Interment was made In tho Lone Tree Cemetery.
