1870 - Charles C. Wede - 1948
Charles Christin Wede, son of John and Elisa Wede, was born on December 10, 1870, in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. He passed away October 4, 1948, at the Hand hospital in Hartley, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 25 days. His earliest years were spent near the place of his birth, in Germany. At the age of 8 he came to America, and to Iowa, living first at Dixie, Iowa, and then, after 2 years there, coming to O'Brien county in 1880. This has since been his home, so he was considered a pioneer resident of this community. It was here that he attended country school.
He became a member of the Lutheran church, having been baptized as a baby in Germany, and confirmed in Bethel Lutheran church in 1947. On January 3, 1900, he was united in marriage to Louise Klinger at Sutherland, Iowa. To them were born 3 children: Lloyd, Orvel and Elmer. Twenty years ago the deceased gave up his lifelong occupation, that of farming, and in 1939 he moved to town.
He was stricken seriously ill about 2 weeks ago and for 12 days was confined to the hospital. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Louise, his three sons, Lloyd of Los Angeles, Calif., Orvel and Elmer, both of Sutherland; one brother, Henry Wede of Sutherland; one sister, Mrs. Sophia Peters of Everly; 7 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
