Service: October 16, 2007, First Christian Reformed Church, Sheldon, Iowa,
Johanna Van Vliet, age 86, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2007, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Greg Timmer officiating.
Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, Iowa, prior to the Memorial Service.
Johanna Van Vliet was born on December 16, 1920, Sanborn, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sam and Jennie (De Boer) Elgersma. When her mother passed away at a young age, Jo’s step-mother Hattie (Navis) Elgersma was a loving mother to her. Jo lived her youth in Sanborn, where she attended Sanborn Christian Grade School. She worked in her father’s grocery store until her marriage to Stanley Van Vliet of Sanborn on May 28, 1946, in Sanborn. They lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before moving to Luverne, Minnesota, where they lived for one year before moving to Sheldon, Iowa.
She was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. She and Stan participated in CRWRC and Red Cross work. She enjoyed people and worked in sales most of her life. The family was blessed by having Jo as a loving, Christian wife, mom, grandma and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family, singing, crocheting and baking.
Johanna passed away on Friday, October 12, 2007, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, surrounded by her loving family. She confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and looked forward to eternal life with Him. Even in her death she bore witness to the blessings and Glory of God.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband: Stan Van Vliet of Sheldon, IA; her children: Jerry and wife Barb Van Vliet of Mount Vernon, WA, Luann and husband Tom Lefever of Denver, CO, Steve and wife Norma Van Vliet of Orange City, IA, Deb and husband Alan Van Maanen of Sheldon, IA; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Linda Mae Van Vliet; her parents; sister: Mae and husband Cornie Vander Werff; two brothers in childhood: Wilmer and Glenn.
