Anna Van Meeteren, age 84, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon.
Graveside Service will be Saturday, July 23, at 10:00 A.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Anna Van Meeteren, nee Anna Katherine Alvina Koerselman, daughter of John and Hendreka (Van Oort) Koerselman, was born on January 11, 1927 in George, Iowa. She lived her childhood with two sisters and six brothers on a farm south of George and attended a country school through the 8th grade. As a young woman she lived in Sheldon with families that she worked for and later with her Grandma, also in Sheldon.
She was united in marriage to Richard Van Meeteren of Sheldon on March 6, 1946 at her parents’ home in rural George. They lived on a farm four miles south of Sheldon moving once to a farm 1 ¼ miles away, where they raised their four children. They also had a special place in their hearts for Pete and Joyce Van Meeteren and their children. In 1977, they moved to a home on Kahler Court in Sheldon. Later they moved to the Christian Retirement Home and then to Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon.
Anna was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where she taught Sunday School and Catechism and worked with the children’s choir. She was also active in Bible studies and women’s groups in the church. Anna loved the Lord and was a Christian example to everyone. She enjoyed working with her daughter Carolyn at the ceramic shop and volunteering at the Village Treasure Chest. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and belonged to the Carroll Township Craft Club.
Most of all, Anna enjoyed her family and loved each one dearly.
She passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband: Richard Van Meeteren of Sheldon, IA; her children: Carolyn and Delmar Van Maanen of Sheldon, IA, LaVonne and John (Sid) Kuiper of Byron Center, MI, Dennis (Dixon) and Darla Van Meeteren of Sheldon, IA, Ruth and David Benes of Grimes, IA; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister: Josephine and Emil Lange of Rock Valley, IA; 4 sisters-in-law: Agnes and Larry Hinken of Sheldon, IA, Rosemary Lode of Sheldon, IA, Anna Mae Koerselman of Merrill, IA, Edith Koerselman of Indianola, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Geraldine Hofmeyer; 6 brothers: John Koerselman, Gerrit Koerselman, Anthony Koerselman, Albert Koerselman, Benjamin Koerselman, and Herman Koerselman.
