Hi,
I have never heard of Hoover Ave. either. Over time streets have been renamed. Some have vanished when a factory expanded or high water washed them out.
City Directories are on file at Musser Public Library in Muscatine. As i was at the library today I looked at the microfilm.
In City Directory 1938-39 Chas M. Newton noted as Welder Barry Pulley Co. Inc. r 513 Schiller.
City Directory 1940-41 Chas M Newton (Stella M) welder Barry Pulley Co. Inc. h ft Hershey av. [home foot of Hershey Ave. which is by the river]
In the 1943 City Directory the family was at the same address.
In 1946 they lived at 308 Orange Street.
In 1949 they were living at 104 Walnut St.
For your information; McKee Button is located at 1000 Hershey Ave. in Muscatine.
If Charles Newton owned his home, then land records would record his lot. These records are on file at the Muscatine Co. Records office. Only walk-ins may look the records up. Cost of copies of deeds are fifty cents.
Another thought is to study the city directories some more and perhaps you will be able to tell when a street got renamed.
