Barbara "Sefferon" Hines

HINES, HEINZE, HEINS, SEFFERON

I am trying to figure out what Barbara's last name really was, as I find absolutely nothing on any searches for Sefferon.

She married Charles (or Carl) Hines (or Heins or Heinze) in 1853, according to family records. I can't find the marriage record. Family records say she was born in Bavaria in 1838 and that Charles was born in 1829 in Berlin, Germany. The name was Heinze but changed to Hines when they came to America, although they show up as Heins in some census and city directory records.

Barbara (which I think is an unusual name for a Bavarian girl in 1838 so that might be an error) died in Muscatine, in 1873, leaving behind 7 small children. I find no burial place for her, no death record for her. She drowned in a cistern and the assumption was that she committed suicide.

I checked her children's marriage applications but they all put "unknown" for mother's maiden name so there were no clues there.

Any advices or leads from anyone? I sure would love to unravel this mystery.

Thank you!
