Hello Idar
If you look in the 1860 Federal Census, Muscatine City, Muscatine County, Iowa, you will see Martin, age 2 living with his parents William Estle, age 40 b. NJ, occupation Machinist and Anne E. age 37 b. VA. At the time, Martin was one of nine children.
John W. 16 yrs b. NY
William B. 15 yrs. b. NY
Daniel 13 yrs b. Mass
Ann M. 11 yrs b. NY
Charles W 7 yrs b. NY
Sarah M. 5 yrs b. NY
George 3 yrs b. IA
Martin 2 yrs b. IA
Henriette 7/12 b. IA

In the 1870 Federal Census this family was living in Brooklyn, NY.

So it seems that this Estle family came to Iowa around 1855 and only stayed until the late 1860's. Hope this helps. If you would like to talk about this some more, please email me directly.
