(Muscatine) Mrs. J. P. Walton, widow of one of the most prominent citizens of Muscatine county, died last Friday, Aug. 27, 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Hoopes, in Muscatine. Her maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Barrows. She was born at Clayville, Oneida county, New York, June 13, 1834 and was married to J. P. Walton in 1857, Five children were born to them, three of whom survive: Mrs. J. Q. Beatty, of near Fruitland, and Mrs. Amos C. Hopkinson and Mrs. J. E. Hoopes of Muscatine. The funeral was held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. I. E. Boss of the Episcopal church of which Mrs. Walton was a member for fully fifty years.
