Funeral services for Vaughn Sanders, 87, Iowa City, were held Aug. 3, 1987 at the United Methodist church in West Liberty, with burial in Oakridge cemetery.

Mr. Sanders died July 31 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City after a long illness.

The son of Jeff and Laura Nichols Sanders, he was born March 20, 1900 in Muscatine county. He married Frieda Lindle June 14, 1922. The couple farmed most of their lives in the South Prairie area southwest of West Liberty.

Mr. Sanders was a member of the United Methodist church in West Liberty, the South Prairie Grange, past president of the Muscatine County Fair Board, former Wapsie township trustee and the Knights of the Pythias Lodge.

He is survived by a son, LeRoy, West Liberty; a daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Mary Lou) Landau, Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter and 3 brothers.
