Funeral services for Jess Foster, 94, Cedar Falls and formerly of Atalissa and West Liberty, were held June 30, 1987 at the West Liberty United Methodist church, with the Rev. Donald Thompson officiating. Mrs. Beverly Blair was the organist and Robert Fulwider was the soloist. Pallbearers were Lyle McCollough, Carl Foster, Darrell Brown, Steven Erickson, Jack Blair, Marvin Blair, Paul Lemman and Richard Brown. Burial was in the Conesville cemetery. Snider Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Foster died June 26 in the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following an extended illness.
The son of early Iowa settlers Solomon and Hattie Files Foster, he was born June 7, 1893 in Estherville. He married Ruth Miller in 1919 in Conesville and following her death, married Betty Neubauer in Nashua.
Mr. Foster farmed in the Atalissa and West Liberty area for 45 years and he was a member of both the Atalissa and West Liberty school boards. He was also a member of the West Liberty United Methodist church, a veteran of World War I and a member of the Cedar Falls American Legion.
He attended Iowa State College in Ames and following his retirement from farming, spent his winters as a resident of Largo and Lakeland, Fla.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife; 3 daughters, Corrine Stout, Willcox, Ariz.; Marilyn Erickson, Mt. Pleasant, Mich. and Geneva Lemman, Eugene, Ore.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ferne Blair, West Liberty and Mrs. Audrey Brown, Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
