George Wittich, Veteran Funeral Director Dies
George Melchior Wittich, 77, funeral director in Muscatine for more than 60 ears, died at Hershey hospital at 1:55 p.m. Friday after a three months illness of a complication of ailments. His home was at 210 1-2 Cedar street.

A lifelong resident of Muscatine, Mr. Wittich was born here July 21, 1864, the son of Werner and Anna S. Quanz Wittich. He married Katherine Meyers in Muscatine on Nov. 23, 1888. She preceded him in death many years ago and on Dec. 30, 1939 he married Wilhelminia Romann in Muscatine.

Mr. Wittich was a member of the Muscatine Power Boat club and a charter member of the Knights of Pythias lodge and had been a member of the German Congregational church.

Surviving are his widow Mrs. Wilheminia Wittich, a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Sharer of Muscatine, a brother, Werner Wittich of Muscatine; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Otto of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Eliabeth Klaffenbach of Muscatine and one grandchild, Katherin Sharer of Muscatine. His parents, his first wife, a son and two sisters preceded him in death.

The body is at the George M. Wittich Funeral home and will remain there for rites at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Paul Clark of the United Brethren church will be in charge. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
