Lyle Werner Wilson
Lyle Werner Wilson, 87, died Monday, Sept.11, 2000, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the New Hope United Methodist Church, 3215 Tipton Rd. The Rev. Tom Parrott will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church. Visitation will be from 5- 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for the Salvation Army and the New Hope United Methodist Church.

Mr. Wilson was born Oct. 27, 1912, and was a lifelong resident of Muscatine. He was the son of Everett T. and Catherine Werner Wilson. He married Gladys Geirse Merideth on Oct. 23, 1955, in Davenport.

Lyle served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. Following his military service, he opened Wilson Chick Hatchery in Muscatine and remained in the hatchery business until 1962. In 1963 he and his wife, Gladys started Wilson Vamp; S Hardware, now Wilson True Value Hardware Inc. 1420 Park Ave., Muscatine. Until recent health concerns prevented his involvement, Mr. Wilson enjoyed active participation and took joy in operating his business. He had a great love and appreciation for the community that he was able to serve in this capacity for 37 years. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and took great pride in raising fruit trees. His favorite past time was playing with his grandchildren. They always brought a smile to his face.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gladys R. Wilson; his children, Kathy Umlandt and her husband, Bill, of Muscatine; Connie Kral and her husband, Andy, of Muscatine; Nancy Merideth Guyer and her husband, Bob, of Iowa City; and Jim Merideth of Dallas, Texas; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother, Donald.
