Ronald Wayne Digney, 25, Maquoketa, was fatally injured April 24 when the truck he was driving struck a utility pole off the county line road between West Liberty and Downey. The accident occured at 11:17 p.m. Digney was headed west, driving a truck owned by his employer, the Mid-America Pipeline Co.
Digney apparently lost control of the truck, entered the south ditch of the gravel road, struck a utility pole and rolled over with the left side of the car against the pole, trapping him inside.
The West Liberty Fire and Rescue unit, using the Jaws of Life removed Digney's body from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead when taken to the Muscatine General Hospital.
The accident took place across the road from the Robert Milder farm residence.
Funeral services for Digney were held in West Liberty April 28 with burial in the Oak Ridge cemetery.
The son of William and Gertrude Herlein Digney, he was born in Muscatine Feb. 26, 1965. He was married to Linda Shetler June 1, 1974. He had been employed at the Mid-American Pipeline Co. for 5 years. They had lived in Maquoketa for 5 years.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Shane; his parents, West Liberty, 2 brothers, Larry, Walcott and Jerry, Janesville, Wis. and 2 sisters, Mrs. Joe (Donna) Dickey, Muscatine and Mrs. Max (Barbara) Totemeier, Columubus Junction.
