Last rites for Mrs. Verna Slach, 80, West Branch, were held at the First United Methodist church, Iowa City, Oct. 19 with the Rev. C. Dendy Garrett officiating. Burial was in the Oakridge cemetery, West Liberty.

Mrs. Slach died at the Crestview Care Center Oct. 13, following an extended illness.

The daughter of George Edward and Hattie Verry Herr, she was born at West Liberty March 8, 1896. She attended the West Liberty schools and Iowa State Teachers college. She was married to John Slach at West Liberty March 9, 1920.

She lived south of Iowa City near Hills for 30 years and recently had made her home with a son, Kenneth, West Branch. She was a member of the First United Methodist church, Iowa City and the church's women's group.

She is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth, West Branch and Wayne, Fullerton, Calif., also 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a brother, Clifford Herr, Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter and a grandson.
