Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie M. Hinkhouse, 91, were held at the West Liberty Methodist church March 5 with the Rev. Lawrence Carlton officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery. Mrs. Hinkhouse died at an Iowa City nursing home March 3, following a lengthy illness.

The daughter of Millard F. and Nina Barklow Melick, she was born in Muscatine county Sept. 27, 1882 and attended Muscatine Business college. She was secretary and chief operator at the West Liberty Telephone company until her marriage to G. V. Hinkhouse Dec. 29, 1915.

The couple first lived in Dexter, Mo., then moved back to West Liberty in 1924. She was a charter member and founding president of her chapter of PEO in Dexter, and in West Liberty was a 50-year member and past president of Chapter AH of the PEO.

She was also a 50-year member of Loftus Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a long-time district officer of the Burlington district of the Women's Missionary society, and was active in the West Liberty United Methodist church.

She is survived by a daughter, Frances, West Liberty; a son, Dr. Forrest Hinkhouse, San Francisco, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Nell Forsyth, West Liberty.

Her husband and a son preceded her in death.
