Carol A. Payne, 84, of Muscatine passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.at Jon Brauns Excavating located at 2719 Highway 61 in Muscatine. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services is caring for Carol’s arrangements.

Carol Alberta Manning was born on January 11, 1938 in Coppock, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin Ray and Emma Lucille (Smith) Manning. Carol attended school in Wayland, Iowa. In 1954 she married Don L. Carroll in Washington, Iowa. Don preceded Carol in death in 1956 after being tragically killed. Carol then married Harry Payne and later divorced. Carol was a life partner of Bernie Brauns for over 20 years. Carol and Bernie were owners and operators of CB Transfer. Carol had also been employed at the Moose, Allsteel, Crescent Nursing Home as head of housekeeping and bartended. She enjoyed fishing, camping, baking, being outdoors, canning and playing cards. Carol treasured having a large extended family and valued the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carol will be deeply missed by her children, Don L. Carroll Jr. and Rebecca Payne, both of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Christopher Lamp, Ross Donelson, Drea Garcia, Dalton Carroll and Faith Carroll, nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Opal Wiggins of Mt Pleasant and Lyle (Judy) Manning of Texas; sister-in-law, Carol Manning (wife of Everett) of California and friends, Joann, Dick, Betty, Bev and Kelly.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Carla Lamp; life partner, Bernie Brauns and siblings, Patti Manning, Gladys Lee, Anna Lowe, Delores Sinn and Everett Manning.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Unity Point Hospice for all of their care and compassion for Carol as well as our countless friends and family for everything they have done.
