Jeannine Smith Alliston, age 84, of Durant, IA, formerly of Bettendorf died on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Wilton Retirement Community, Wilton, IA.

Jeannine was born December 11, 1929 to James and Josephine (Barnes) Smith in Memphis, MO.

She graduated from High School in Memphis, MO. Then from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA in 1951 with a B.A. in Social Studies.

She married C.E. Alliston in Memphis, MO in 1951. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1989.

Jeannine was a teacher for many years.

She was a lifelong member of the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, she served many offices in the local P.E.O, was an A.A.R.P member and a tax aide volunteer for 15 years. Jeannine was an avid golfer and a volunteer for 12 years for the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament. She was a member of the Duck Creek Women's Golf Club, Davenport, IA for over 40 years. She was a founding member of the Midwest Horseman's Association, she and her daughter Tracy showed horses all over the Midwest. She belonged to a painting group, lunch bunch and bridge club. Her greatest love was spending time on the farm with her family and watching the Hawkeyes and Cubs.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday December 13, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, Bettendorf, IA, with lunch to follow.

Private family inurnment will take place at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Tracy and her husband Gregory Miller of Durant, IA, her son Danny Alliston of Harrison, AR, her grandsons: Justin and his wife Megan Miller of Ames, IA and Clayton Miller of Durant, IA, her special friend Cpt. Allison McCrary of Davenport, IA, as well as Deb and Kevin of Bettendorf, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Jim Henry Smith.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
