MUSCATINE–Thomas D. Gillespie, 76, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at his home.

All friends and relatives are invited to the funeral service that will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021, at The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Thomas was born on September 29, 1944, in Muscatine, the son of Charles and Helen Pahl Gillespie.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War from 1964-1968. Thomas retired from the United States Post Office in 2012 after 28 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. Thomas was also the treasurer for the National Letter Carrier Association.

He enjoyed happy hour, golfing, walking, and going to the YMCA. Thomas was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Green Bay Packers. He had a very quick wit, and no one was a stranger in Tom's world.

Thomas is survived by his four children, Jean Heitmann and her husband, Lynn, of Illinois City, Illinois, June Jones of Davenport, Heather Walker and her significant other, Scott Neblung, of Davenport, and Gregory Gillespie and his wife, Kelly, of Muscatine; ten grandchildren, Jessica Reichert, April Kofoot, Jennifer Taylor, Sarah Lane, Jacob Walker, Thaddeus Walker, Matthew Morrison, Evan Gillespie, Josephine Gillespie, and Taylor Dowell; 12 great grandchildren; and his significant other, Janet Brauns of Muscatine.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Justine Freeborn; and one brother, Charles Gillespie.
