Funeral services for John L. Newman, Sr., 66, were held May 19 at West Liberty with burial at Muscatine.

Mr. Newman died May 17 at his home near Atalissa.

Mr. Newman was born July 27, 1900 in Muscatine, the son of Lewellyn and Lula Parry Newman. He had lived in the Cedar Valley area for 45 years.

He was married to Jessie E. Cone Oct. 9, 1921 and she preceded him in death in 1957. He was married to Dorothy Petersen on Sept. 14, 1963 and she preceded him in death in March of this year.

Mr. Newman was a member of the Methodist church of Cedar Valley, of the Odd Fellows lodge of West Liberty and of the Farm Bureau and Grange. He was a township clerk and drainage district supervisor.

Surviving are 2 sons, John Jr., Owatonna, Minn. and James R., Lett; 2 step-daughters, Mrs. William Morrison, West Liberty and Mrs. John Connor, Atalissa; a brother, a sister and 6 grandchildren.
