WEST WINDSOR-Joan Bharucha of West Windsor, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Joan was born on April 30th, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa to Raleigh and Edna Lane. She grew up in rural eastern Iowa, where she attended a one room school house as a child and graduated from Muscatine High School in Muscatine Iowa.
Joan's higher education included a B.S. from State University of Iowa and a M.S. from New York University.
Joan worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and taught nursing at Trenton State University. She made a career change after studies in Computer Programming and was an IT supervisor at Dow Jones & Company.
Since retirement Joan had volunteered for numerous organizations. She was a regular at the West Windsor Community Farmers' Market, having a table assisting people with voter registration. She also volunteered at the League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, West Windsor Library, and the West Windsor Senior Center.
She enjoyed spending days gardening on her property, attending plays and orchestras, traveling the world, and spending time with her family and friends.
Joan is survived by her son, Nikhil Bharucha and daughter-in-law, Heide Bharucha of Allamuchy, New Jersey and her brother, Richard Lane of Eldridge, Iowa.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh and Edna, a brother, Jack and a sister, Kathryn (all of Muscatine, Iowa); her husband, Jayendra Bharucha of West Windsor, New Jersey; a brother, Clinton Lane of Flagstaff, Arizona; and a brother, Royce Lane of Laramie, Wyoming.
A private ceremony for immediate family followed by cremation was held under the direction A.S. Cole Son & Co. 22 North Main Street, Cranbury, NJ.
A celebration of Joan's life will be arranged at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the West Windsor Community Farmers' Market and/or the International Planned Parenthood Federation by visiting In Memory Of at inmemof.org.
