Mrs. Emily Laurence , 82, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eva Fowler on Muscatine Island this morning at 4:20. Death was due to complications resulting from advanced age.
Miss Emily Eakins was born near Pittsburgh, Pa., Feb. 6, 1845, but had been a resident of Iowa since she was seven years of age. With her parents she settled near Marshalltown, where she grew into womanhood.
She married Percy Gage in 1867, and he died four years later. On Jan. 21, 1875, she married William Laurence who died 21 years ago. She made her home on Muscatine Island from 1875 until the time of her death.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Eva Fowler, Fruitland, and one son, Grover Laurence, Muscatine; one stepson, J. R. Laurence, LaPorte, Ia., and two stepdaughters Mrs. Mary Arnold of this city and Mrs. Anna Uhl, Mapleton, Ia. There are eight grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted from the Fowler home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. V. A. Bloomquist. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery. The Meyers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
