AUSTIN, Texas - Kathryn W. Smaus, 92, formerly resided in St. Petersburg, Florida and Muscatine, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Brookdale Gaines Ranch Assisted Living, in Austin Texas.

A virtual memorial service will be held on a future date to be determined. The Ralph J. Wittich Riley Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Kathryn was born on October 6, 1928, in River Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Mary Edwards Wilson. She married Richard F. Smaus on October 2, 1954, in Oak Park, Illinois.

Kay Graduated from Oak Park High School in Illinois, The University of Colorado, and John Marshall Law School. She majored in chemistry, math, and patent law. She worked for Corn Products Corporation for ten years in the research lab and the patent department. She took income tax courses and was a tax preparer for H & R Block.

Kay was active in her church as a youth leader, chairman of various committees, church treasurer, and the president and treasurer of the Women's Group. She was also the treasurer of the Ladies Golf Association, her investment club, and the American Association of University Women. A name grant was given in Kathryn's honor by the American Association of University Women. In addition, she was a member of TTT.

Kathryn is survived by her two sons Douglas, married to Lisa, and Gregory, married to Susan. She has five grandchildren: Stephen, Kathryn, Matthew, Nicholas, and Hanna.

She was preceded in death by Richard, her husband and best friend of 67 years.
