Phillip Freyermuth, 81, a long-time resident of West Liberty, died Jan. 9 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City after suffering a stroke in his home earlier that day.

Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at the Methodist church in West Liberty wit the Rev. Harland Gant officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Freyermuth was born Dec. 31, 1885 in Germany, the son of Carl and Sophia Freyermuth. He had lived in West Liberty the last 73 years and was a retired farmer. On March 4, 1909, in Muscatine, he was married to Alma Satterthwaite. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife; 3 sons, Clifford, Atalissa; Lauren, Wilton Junction and Dale, Mundelein, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Marian) Jaynes, Concord, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters.
