James David Martin

January 10, 1944-April 14, 2021

MUSCATINE–James David Martin, 77, of Muscatine, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, peacefully at his home.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online Condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com

James was born on January 10, 1944, in Muscatine, the son of Adolph and Frances Keever Martin. He married Josephine 'JoDee' Reddick on May 10, 1969.

James worked at H.J. Heinz until retirement. He then retired again from Allsteel when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

He was a god-gifted musician from his childhood. He played piano, organ, and accordion. He was gifted with perfect pitch and played proficiently in all keys. His love for music was such a gift. In his youth he found Christ as savior and dedicated his musical gift to the Lord. Having had opportunities to play for other types of music, he refused as his dedication to God was most important. Jim was a gifted tenor singer. He wrote many of his own songs and set music to scriptures. Jim and his wife led worship in the Church of God for many years. He organized different gospel groups in which they would sing in many other churches, camp meetings, gospel sings, etc.

Jim loved piano but also had a deep love for the accordion. Many who knew him and sat under the music of this gifted piano player would comment about the anointing that flowed as he played skillfully upon the instrument.

James is a member of the Church of God Chapel of Praise. Jim enjoyed the fellowship of Pastor Bill Walker of Glad Tidings Church, where he attended on Sunday nights and played keyboard, piano, and sang specials.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine 'JoDee' of Muscatine; one son, Jeff Brown and wife, Julie, of Muscatine; two grandsons, Chase and Corbin; two brothers Phillip Martin and wife, Sharon, of Muscatine, and Justin Martin of Colorado; two sisters, Lilly Cunningham and husband, Bill, of Muscatine, and Marian Martin of Oregon; six nieces; and one nephew.

James is preceded in death by his father and mother.
