James Henry Lowenberg,87, of Wayland, a former Atalissa resident, died April 10 en route to Mercy hospital in Iowa City after suffering a stroke.

Services were April 12 in West Liberty, with burial in Overman cemetery, Atalissa.

Mr. Lowenberg was born Sept. 1, 1877, at Donnellson. He was married to Marie Owens April 5, 1905, in Sedalia, Mo. He had lived in Wayland the past 3 years.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church and Masonic lodge at Atalissa, and had been employed as a postal clerk.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Maisie Madden, Des Moines and Mrs. William Honke, Iowa City; a brother, Alfred, Donnellson, 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 3 sisters and 8 brothers.
