CONESVILLE.

Joseph Lyman Heath was born in the state of New York, in Caguga county, on March 28, 1827, and departed this life at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Marie Brown, in Minneapolis, Minn., on February 10, 1913, aged 85 years, 10 months and 12 days.
In 1847 he moved to Orland, Indiana, and worked at the wagon trade until 1850 he crossed the plains overland to California. He started on March 19th and got through to the mining country on august 4th, then he returned to Indiana in 1852, having started on May 28, and reached Indiana on July 4th of the same year, 1852. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Twilchel and to this union were born four children, two dying in infancy, the other two, James A. died on January 25th, 1907, and one daughter, Mrs. Sara Collins, of Fremont, Indiana, is the only surviving child.
In 1856 he and his wife moved overland to Topeka, Kansas, and from there they went with a party of 100 by caravan to Denver, Colo., and in 1860 they returned to Indiana, which has been his home ever since.
On April 25th, 1892, occurred the death of his wife in Indiana. Early in life he became a member of the Presbyterian church, being led in this step by pious and loving parents. In the last months of his life his thought turned to the life beyond.
Mr. Heath lived in many respects an exemplary life. He was a kind father, an obliging neighbor, upright in all his dealings and hence loved by all who knew him.
His death in a ripe old age is mourned by one sister, Mrs. Catherine Owen, who is now the only surviving child of Samuel and Cynthia Heath. Lyman Heath being the third of a family on nine children. He is also survived by one daughter, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
The remains were brought to Conesville from Minneapolis on Feb. 13th accompanied by his two grandchildren, Mrs. Marie Brown and Mrs. Pearl Grabil and were taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Ira Owen, where a short service was held in the afternoon and interment was made in the Brockway cemetery near Conesville, by the side of his mother. The Rev. C. E. Ewing, pastor of the Grace Reformed church, conducting the services.
Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were, Mesdames Marie Brown and Pearl Grabil, of Minneapolis, Minn., Earl Diamond and wife; of Columbus Junction, and J. T. McCormick and wife, of Columbus City, Iowa.
