BETTENDORF, Iowa - George H. Grable, 91, of Bettendorf, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015, at his home.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or service. Memorials may be made to the Nichols United Methodist Church or Wounded Warriors. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

George was born on October 24, 1923, in Grants Pass, Oregon, the son of Homer and Osa Pollock Grable. He grew up in Grants Pass and then attended Oregon State College.

He proudly served his country from 1943 until 1946, as a Marine pilot instructor. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Corpus Christi, Texas, and went on to become a Captain.

He married Alice Elder at the First Methodist Church in Muscatine in 1944.

After his war service he was a corporate pilot for Midland Industries in Cedar Rapids. He loved flying. He and his family moved to Nichols where they operated Grable's Farm Store for 15 years. He was a member of the Lone Tree American Legion. When he and Alice moved to the Quad Cities, they bought and sold real estate until retiring.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 71 years, Alice Grable of Bettendorf; three daughters, Linda Marcus of Louden, Tennessee, Marilyn Grable of Davenport, and Beth Eden of Lone Tree; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Kenneth Grable; four sisters; and two nephews, Dee McKean and Dan Duda.
