Mrs. Josephine Ames, 79, died at Hershey hospital at 7:30 Tuesday night, after a short illness. Mrs. Ames suffered a stroke of paralysis Monday and her left hip was fractured when she fell.

Mrs. Ames was born in Illinois, Sept. 5, 1848. She resided in Muscatine for about 20 years then went to Chicago and California for a time. She returned to Muscatine in February and had been here since. She was married in 1866 to Silas Ames, who died about 12 years ago.

Mrs. Ames was a member of the First Baptist church, of the Women’s Relief corps and of the Order of Eastern Star of Muscatine.

Surviving are three sons, Gus at Ft. Madison, Albert of Chicago and Charles M. of Chicago; one daughter, Stella G. Ames of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist church by the Rev. Vernon L. Shontz. Burial will be in the Nichols cemetery. The Women’s Relief corps will have charge of short services at the church. The body will remain at the Meyers Funeral Home until services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Ames, who died at Hershey hospital after a paralytic stroke, were conducted at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the First Baptist church by the Rev. Vernon L. Shontz. The Women’s Relief corps conducted short services at the church. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

NOTE: Burial was in Watkins Cemetery in Pike Township, Muscatine County, Iowa.
