Requiem high mass for Hubert Pelzer, 25, and his wife Joyce, 22, who were killed in a highway accident Sept. 26, was held Sept. 38 at St. Joseph's church, West Liberty. Burial was at Mt. Calvary cemetery near West Liberty. Mr. and Mrs. Pelzer died instantly in a car-truck crash on a fog shrouded highway, 15 miles south of Rock Island, Ill.

The head-on collision took place on U.S. 67 near Preemption in Mercer county, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Pelzer were on their way to the Farm Progress show at Morton, Ill., in a car driven by George Meyers of near West Liberty. Pelzer and Meyers were riding in the front seat; Mrs. Pelzer and Mrs. Meyers in the rear seat.

According to reports from the scene of the crash, Meyers started to pass a school bus in the fog when he saw a truck approaching. He pulled over onto the shoulder of the road. The truck also pulled over and the car and truck collided, shearing off the right side of the Meyers' car.

Meyers and his wife, Janet, were hospitalized as a result of the crash. The driver of the truck, Ted King, Jacksonville, Ill., was not hurt.

Mr. Pelzer was born Nov. 3, 1937, near Atalissa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pelzer. A graduate of West Liberty high school in 1955, he served 6 months of active duty in the army and since had completed his active army reserve service.

He was a member of St. Joseph's church in West Liberty. He and his wife farmed about 7 miles northeast of West Liberty.

Mrs. Pelzer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Kuehl of Tipton, was a graduate of Tipton high school. She had worked as a secretary in the abstracting office of Atty. Ed Kemp of Tipton before her marriage. She also was a member of St. Joseph's church.

She was married to Mr. Pelzer Nov. 18, 1961, at Tipton.

The couple's 11 month old son Perry, survives.

Other survivors of Mr. Pelzer include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pelzer, of Atalissa; 4 brothers, Don, West Liberty; Richard and Paul, Tipton, and Raymond at home; and 3 sisters, Mrs. James Ruess, West Liberty; Mrs. Leonard McLachlan, Iowa City, and Mrs. Louise Cavros, Cedar Rapids.

Mrs. Pelzer's other survivors include her parents; a brother, Kenneth, Tipton; 3 sisters, Mrs. Darlene Lamp, Moline, Ill., Mrs. Twyla LaMauck and Mrs. Alberta Wagamon, both of Wilton Junction.
