Henry D. Kane, well known in Muscatine and Kalona, Ia., died at his home in Kalona July 2 after a six months illness. Mr. Kane with his family returned from California a year ago and the abrupt change in climate was too much for him, his death occurring after a long illness.
Mr. Kane was employed by a western railroad for 20 years and he had been a member of the Moose lodge for many years. He married Laura Mellinger here in 1885. Mr. Kane’s father, John James Kane, was an old pioneer of Muscatine County, being the first secretary of the court house in the county.
Surviving Mr. Kane are his widow, one son, Preston; six grandchildren, Donald Preston, Jr., Joh, Elmer, Morean and Jeann. Three children preceded him in death, Harry, Howard and Dollie Kane. Mrs. Neillie Wilson of Muscatine, Mrs. Abbott of Burlington and Mrs. Mayme Sanderson of New Hampshire, sisters, also survive.
Short services were conducted at Kalona and the body was then brought to Muscatine where Muscatine Moose conducted services at the grave, assisted by the Rev. E. A. Bentzinger of the First Methodist church. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
