August C. Aye, 85, Atalissa, died Aug. 31 at the Wilton Junction nursing home after an extended illness.
A life-long resident of the Atalissa community, he was born Oct. 31, 1875, at Davenport, the son of Peter and Catherine Clemns Aye.
He was married to Irva Vallett on March 6, 1897. She preceded him in death of Feb. 6, 1921. He was married April 27, 1927, to Mrs. Marian Oepping.
He was a member of the Atalissa Presbyterian church and the Knight of Pythias Lodge of Muscatine.
Survivors include his wife; 4 sons, Glen D., Davenport, Merle A., Muscatine, Leo L., Davenport and Kenneth C., Tucumcari, N.M.; one step-son, Ray Oepping, Atalissa; 3 daughters, Mrs. George (Florence) Sterner, Atalissa, Mrs. Ivan (Pearl) Sterner, Wilton Junction, Mrs. Ralph (Grace) Schmitt, Davenport; 3 step-daughters, Mrs. Ed Windman, Wilton Junction, Mrs. Albert Asmus, New Liberty, and Mrs. Harry King, Jeffersonville, Ind.; 2 brothers, Rudolph, Alpena, S. D., and John, Miles City, Mont.; one sister, Mrs. Anna Witt, Rock Island, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his first wife, one brother, 3 sisters and one step-daughter.
Funeral services were held at Wilton Junction Sept. 3. Interment was at Oakdale cemetery.
