Muscatine Journal Saturday April 11, 1903
MRS. HUMPLEBY DIES.
Passed Away at an Early Hour Today at Son's Home.
This morning at 5:30 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Sarah Humpleby, a resident of Muscatine for about thirty-eight years, at the home of her son, Fred Humpleby, 1014 Park avenue, the cause of her death being a contagious disease. Deceased had been ill for a considerable time and when taken with the malady that caused her death, she was not strong enough to withstand the ravages, though bearing up and struggling desperately against it.
Mrs. Humpleby came to Muscatine thirty-eight years ago and since that time has made this place her home. Few women are more widely acquainted or more highly respected than was she, having been a faithful member of the Baptist church through her life, and giving every possible effort to further the church work.
Mrs. Humpleby is survived by three children, who are Franzel Clark and Mrs. May Heath, of near West Liberty, and one son, Fred, with whom she lived.
The contagious disease made an immediate funeral necessary and Mrs. Humpleby was laid in her last resting place this afternoon.
