Dorothea Hazen Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nichols. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty.

NICHOLS, Iowa - Dorothea A. Hazen, 79, Nichols, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, after an extended illness. Private family burial of the cremains will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Nichols. Memorials may be made to the Nichols First Responders.

Mrs. Hazen was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Davenport, the daughter of Petrus and Sophia VanAken Polman. She married Albert Hazen Dec. 28, 1946, in Nichols.

She was employed with West Liberty Oil for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nichols.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas Hazen and wife Phyllis, Michael Hazen and wife Linda and Charles Hazen and wife Sally, all of Nichols, and Dennis Hazen of Centerville; three daughters, Renee Mills and husband Doug and Lori Hazen, all of Nichols, and Annette Cahill and husband William of Tipton; a brother, Robert Polman of Iowa City; four sisters, Louise Ulch of Gladbrook, Darlene Miller of Santa Ana, Calif., Kathleen Meeks of West Branch and Shirley Bohr of Wellman; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four brothers.
