Mrs. Atha Noland, 74, died at her home in West Liberty at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 after a heart attack.
She was a long-time resident of West Liberty and taught in rural schools in the area in the early 1900's.
Mrs. Noland was born February 11, 1885, near Downey, the daughter of James A. and Maude Nichols Connely.
She was married to Ivan Noland Oct. 21, 1908, in West Liberty. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1958.
She was a member of the West Liberty Methodist church and of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; 2 sons, Dr. James Noland, a veterinarian at Centerville, and the Rev. William Noland, Estherville; 2 brothers, Verl Connely, Newark, N.J., and Charles Connely, Drumheller, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Mrs. Amos Kingsley, Yuma, Ariz., and 3 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a daughter and a brother.
