William C. Anderson, who with his son established a nationally-known Shorthorn cattle breeding business, died early Saturday at his farm home in the South Prairie community near West Liberty. He was 76.
At one time a prominent Iowa Poland-China swine breeder, Mr. Anderson and his son, William started a Shorthorn cattle business in about 1928 which produced hundred of premiums and prizes in exhibitions from coast to coast.
For many years Mr. Anderson judged Midwest swine shows.
He was born Dec. 5, 1879, in Rock Island county, Ill., a son of Andrew and Mary Bachman Anderson. For the past 67 years he was a resident of the West Liberty area.
He was married to Ethel Nichols Feb. 18, 1911 at West Liberty.
He was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge and the Shrine.
Mr. Anderson was also affiliated with the National Poland-China association, of which he was a past president; the Iowa and National Shorthorn Breeders association, the Farm Bureau and the rural electrification administration, of which he was a past director.
Survivors include his widow; one son, William, of South Prairie; one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Rogers, of Tracy, Minn.; four brothers, Paul, West Liberty; Alfred, Iowa City; Andrew, Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, and Ed, Calgary, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Connelly, Drumheller, and Nettie Anderson, Los Angeles, Calif., and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
