Ross Drury Called By Death This Morn

Well Known Character Passed Away After Brief Illness

Death Was Caused by Pneumonia, which Was Contracted Recently – Death Unexpected.

Ross Drury, well-known in this city, died at his home, 1017 East Tenth street, this morning at about 2 o’clock. His death followed an illness of but a few days. Pneumonia which was contracted by him but a short time ago, was the cause of his demise.

During his entire residence in this city, Ross Drury had become a well-known known character here. He was one of the most familiar character of the community and his death takes from the city a friend of many people.

He was born November 2, 1845, of Drury’s Landing, above the city in Illinois. He was born of wealthy parents, who were intimately connected with the settling of this section of the middle west. And the place of his birth was named for his family. At the age of six months he was brought to this city when his parents made their home here. His father, William A. Drury, became engaged in the grocery business and was a prominent business man in Muscatine up to the time of his death some years ago.

Mr. Drury was married to Miss Charity Russell, of Ypsillon Mich., February 20, 1888, and preceded in death by her several years ago.

Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Kitty Metzger, of this city, and John, who died in infancy.
