George W. Thompson, civil war veteran and resident of Muscatine for the last 60 years, died at 5:30 yesterday afternoon following a brief attack of pleuro-pneumonia at the home of his daughter Mrs. Edward Nolte, 1009 Mill street. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Thompson was born Feb. 12, 1843, in Carroll county, Ohio, and came to Muscatine in early manhood. He served throughout the civil war with Co. H 184th Ohio Infantry.
About 58 years ago, he married Miss Hannah Churchill, who preceded him in death by 17 years. Five children were born, four of whom survive.
Besides his daughter, he is survived by three sons, Albert, Edward, and Burton Thompson, all of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon from the Nolte home. The Rev. C. W. Hempstead of the Mulford Congregational church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
