Roy Stephens of West Liberty Dies of Heart Attack
West Liberty – Roy Stephens, 53, died suddenly at his home Friday afternoon about 2:30, following a heart attack.
Born Feb. 5, 1897, near West Liberty in the Cedar Valley community, he was the son of G. B. and Charlotte Stephens. He was a tinner by trade. He served in World War No. 1 and was a member of the American Legion. He also was a member of the Masonic lodge, and a member of the Presbyterian church.
He married Frieda Kruse, on June 20, 1921. She survives, along with a daughter, Betty Lou Mahoney, Omaha, Neb.; a son, Bob, at home; a brother, Ward, living in Illinois; and four sisters, Mrs. Glen Carter, West Liberty, Mrs. Guy Flater and Mrs. Reuben Askam, both living in the Cedar Valley community south of West Liberty, and Mrs. Harry Hardin, Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian church here with the Rev. C. J. Frank, pastor of the church, in charge. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery. The body is at the Snider funeral home.
