John Allen Connor, 11, West Liberty, son of Mrs. Elda Connor of West Liberty and John E. Connor of Atalissa, was instantly killed Nov. 27 when struck by a car on highway 6, just east of West Liberty.
The car was driven by Merle Russell of Bettendorf. Coroner Ralph N. Figg of Muscatine county said that the boy had been playing along the banks of Wapsie creek north of the highway with Dennis Bailey, 15, also of West Liberty, just before the accident.
Coroner Figg said no charges were filed against Russell, and said there would be no inquest.
John Allen Connor was born Nov. 10, 1946, at Lamar, Colo. He came to West Liberty with his parents when he was 2 years old.
He was in the fifth grade in West Liberty schools and attended the Methodist church. An active Cub Scout, he was to have been moved up to Boy Scout participation at a pack ceremony Nov. 27.
Survivors include his mother and father; two sisters, Jacqueline and Mary Ann, both at home in West Liberty, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Seering, of Iowa City, and Mrs. Lida Connor, of West Liberty.
Services were held Saturday in the Methodist church with the Rev. Raymond Orr officiating. Burial was in Oakridge cemetery.
