Atalissa, Ia., Aug. 4. -- Antonos Stovropoulos died Wednesday, July 27, 1910, being 50 years of age. He was born and raised in Greece, came to America in 1906 to earn his livelihood at hard labor. He was one of the crew of 32 workmen who came to repair the rock Island track. They were just starting on their day’s work when he was struck by a passing freight train and instantly killed. He was taken to Berry’s undertaking parlor where preparations were made for burial.

He was a member of the Roman Catholic church and was an honest and industrious man, well liked by all his crew and will be greatly missed by all of them.

His remains were taken to the home of James Hayes for the services which were conducted by Father Kirkpatrick of Wilton. At 2 o’clock on July 29.

He leaves a wife and five children, 4 girls and one boy, to mourn his loss, and who were expecting his return home in the near future. His brother-in-law, Thiros Anton of St. Louis, was present at the funeral, also Thiros Pappas of Muscatine. Although his loved ones were in a foreign land, the heart of everyone could sympathize with them in the loss of a companion and father and many beautiful flowers were contributed to brighten his resting place. At the close of the sermon each one of his company gathered around his form and each bed a long adieu. He was laid in a quiet spot in Timberlake’s cemetery, two miles south of town.
