Mrs. Hugh Reed of Atalissa, died last Saturday evening, December 24th after a long and painful sickness. She had been a resident of this state for 50 years, of which the greater part of was spent in Muscatine County. Mary Drum Reed was born in the County of West Meath, Ireland, on October 20, 1837. When she was 10 years of age, her parents came to this country and settled in Unadilla, New York. She was married to Hugh Reed in January 1856 and immediately the young couple moved west to the state of Iowa where she resided until called to her better home. Her husband preceded her in death by one year and 8 months.
In 1868 she united with the Episcopal Church of Durant.
She is survived by seven children and one sister. Her family with their places of residence are as follows.

The funeral was held Tuesday, December 27th, from the Presbyterian Church and the services were conducted by the Pastor Rev. J.B. Cameron.
The remains were tenderly laid to rest by the side of her husband in the cemetery at West Liberty.
