27 February 1902 - West Branch Times

The many friends of Mrs. P. T. Smith will be saddened by the announcement of her death, which occurred Monday morning, Feb. 24th, at the family residence on East Eighth street. She had enjoyed good health until Thursday last, when she was stricken with paralysis. From this stroke she did not rally, and without regaining consciousness passed peacefully into the sleep of death.

Mrs. Smith was born July 31, 1844, in Salem, Columbiana county, Ohio. Forty-one years ago last November she was married to P. T. Smith in her native city. For the last fourteen years they have made their home in Muscatine. Three daughters and two sons were born to them: Mrs. Ella Smith of this city, Mrs. F. W. Grossheim of Chicago and Messrs. E. W. and W. H. Smith of this city. Her husband and all her children survive to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Smith was a woman greatly beloved. She was a true and faithful wife, a loving and devoted mother. Her Christian graces in the home and in the large circle of her friends endeared her to all who enjoyed the honor of her acquaintance. No wife or mother could be more loved and revered than she, none will be more deeply mourned. The family has the sincere sympathy of a host of friends in this great sorrow.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. N. Elliott of the First Presbyterian church. The interment will be in Muscatine cemetery--Muscatine Journal.
